Concord House involved a humble extension to an existing residential dwelling – a simple redesign with a focus on creating inviting and uplifting spaces for the owners and their young children to live in. The brief included alterations and additions to the house – including a new open plan kitchen, dining, and living space opening south to the backyard with large bi-folding glass doors. A second casual sitting space, new laundry, an additional bedroom and general interior design updates assisted in the reimagination of this this 3-bedroom dwelling in Sydney’s inner west.
Important to the clients – was the linking of indoor and outdoor spaces – allowing the kids to roam freely and ensure that by extending into their existing rear yard they were not losing the benefits of a garden setting – narrow glazing frames views of the new landscaping while floor to ceiling bi-fold doors open up the entire back wall of the residence. A casual courtyard connects to the kitchen via a bi-folding window and breakfast bar – providing a perch for entertaining in the afternoon sunshine. A bay window extends out onto the side terrace in the additional lounge area for the kids – providing a sunny nook for family members to retreat to. According to our clients – the simple reconfiguration of this existing dwelling has changed the way they interact as a family for the better!
